He had just finished back-to-back meetings, fought through traffic for hours, and was too tired to enjoy dinner. As someone who has never lived in Lagos, his exact words were, &#8220;Lagos is mad, and this trip is draining me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/industrial-designer-working-3d-model-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"business travel Lagos\" class=\"wp-image-14189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/industrial-designer-working-3d-model-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/industrial-designer-working-3d-model-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It got me thinking, how do you find rest when your Lagos trip is supposed to be all about business?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because let&#8217;s be honest: business travel in Lagos is not for the faint-hearted. The traffic is intense, the city is noisy, and if you&#8217;re not intentional, you&#8217;ll burn out faster than you can say &#8220;Oshodi.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article is for the traveller who&#8217;s not just here to work, but to stay sane. Here&#8217;s how you can genuinely find balance while handling business in Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Stay Where It&#8217;s Calm (and Central)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Where you stay sets the tone for your entire trip. If your hotel or short-let apartment is in the wrong part of town, you&#8217;ll spend more time in traffic than in meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250223-WA0001.jpg\" alt=\"Zimmr Room\" class=\"wp-image-14105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250223-WA0001.jpg 960w, https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250223-WA0001-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Zimmr Apartment in Oshodi is a good start. While many people envision the chaotic part of it, it also has its calm places, and Zimmer is right there for you to take a breath, even in your chaotic experiences. It is also not too far from the airport, close to major commercial zones like Ikeja and Ilupeju, and importantly, it gives you a space to breathe. You won&#8217;t be stuck in VI traffic if all your work is on the mainland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some Other options, if Oshodi doesn&#8217;t tally with your axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Presken Hotel, Ikeja<\/strong> \u2013 works well if you want proximity to the airport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lansdown Hotel, Ikoyi<\/strong> \u2013 if your business tilts towards the Island elite scene<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But again, stay close to where your work is. Lagos isn&#8217;t the place to &#8220;wing it&#8221; regarding distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Time is Relative in Lagos, Plan Like a Local<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lagos doesn&#8217;t respect clocks. A meeting scheduled for 11 am could become 12:30 pm because someone got stuck on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Schedule meetings <strong>between 10 am and 2 pm<\/strong> \u2013 morning traffic has died down, evening traffic hasn&#8217;t started.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t overload your day. Two quality meetings > five rushed ones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Group meetings by <strong>location<\/strong>, not by importance. VI today, Ikeja tomorrow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practice Rest<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most business travellers treat rest as something optional after the work is done. But in Lagos, rest is part of the work. Without it, you&#8217;ll be irritated, distracted, and unproductive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s helped me (and others like me):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Mornings with a ritual<\/strong> \u2013 Wake up 30 mins early, not to scroll, but to be still. Journal. Sit in silence. Pray. Breathe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Lunch with intention<\/strong> \u2013 Instead of working through lunch, take yourself to a calm place. <em>Caf\u00e9 One in Ikoyi<\/em>, <em>My Coffee Lagos<\/em>, or even a quiet suya spot. Eat. Don&#8217;t talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Evenings with wind-down rules<\/strong>: Switch off your phone, pick a chill series (I recommend <em>Modern Love<\/em> on Prime), and drink tea. Not everything has to be &#8220;catch-up.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. A weekend getaway experience. We wrote an extensive article on it; check it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work From Where You Can Think<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re the type who likes to plug in and work between meetings, not every hotel room can give you the space for deep work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look for a spot that lets you focus. Many use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regus.com\/en-gb\/coworking\">coworking<\/a> stations, but if you prefer to work from where you stay, places like <strong>Zimmr<\/strong> already include desks, fast WiFi, and backup power, which are the basics of survival in this city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, carry a backup <a href=\"https:\/\/zimmr.co\/blog\/navigating-data-price-hikes-how-to-manage-your-internet-costs-as-a-freelancer-in-2025\/\">internet solution<\/a>. But that doesn&#8217;t mean you must chase every meeting, say yes to every hangout, or try to &#8220;maximise&#8221; every minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is rest.
